Once, during a heartfelt discussion, someone asked a difficult but deeply relevant question:

“If we are surrounded by poor leaders… how do we live?

How do we find peace and direction in such a world?”

The question carried a quiet frustration many people feel today.

Radhanath Swami responded with a perspective that shifted the entire conversation.

He explained that leadership is not limited to positions of power. True leadership exists at every level, in the people who live with integrity, who uplift others, and who lead by example, regardless of their status.
To illustrate this, he shared a personal story.

At an official gathering hosted by the President of India, attended by some of the most powerful leaders in the world - including heads of state, ministers, and dignitaries, he found himself reflecting:

“What am I meant to learn from this moment?”

Amidst the grandeur and authority, something simple yet profound caught his attention. A small bird flying freely in the sky above them all.
That bird could not lead nations, build systems, or govern people.
But none of those powerful leaders could do what the bird could do.

In that moment, a realization emerged: Every being has a unique value.
Just like the organs in our body - each different, each essential, no one is superior, and no one is insignificant. A healthy body functions in harmony, not competition.

In the same way, a healthy society is built on mutual respect, not ego.
He explained that much of the conflict in the world comes from people feeling unseen, unvalued, and unappreciated. And from that insecurity arises comparison, division, and the need to prove superiority.
But true leadership is something far more powerful. It is the ability to bring out the good in others.

And that begins with seeing the good within ourselves.
When we become secure in who we are, we naturally begin to appreciate the value in others - regardless of their role, status, or identity.

That is where peace begins. Not in changing the world’s leaders, but in transforming the way we see and respond to the world around us.
